The handling of information has not become easier due to the existing oversupply. The critical and competent handling of information, however, wants to be learned and is especially important for young people - who are confronted with many questions for the first time in their lives.
At the same time, the variety of possibilities makes the use of information in competent decisions and actions ever more challenging. Information literacy and, based on this, decision-making and action competence have therefore become key factors for the self-determined and fulfilled life of young people.
The National Network of Austrian Youth Information Centres, funded by the Austrian Federal Chancellery (BKA), and its members, the Youth Information Centers in the federal states, have set themselves the goal of strengthening the information literacy of young people.
Especially in our digital world, the critical assessment of information from the web and the evaluation of online sources are often difficult. The initiative Saferinternet.at, which is also funded by the BKA, provides a range of offers that support this.
